Textual analyse of Q magazine
Masthead - The masthead in this magazine takes up nearly 1/4 of the page it may be one letter but it is white in a red background this is done for effect and to make the brand stand out to the audience.
Datelines - In the Q magazine the datelines are located in the bottom right corner and in a normal font as most magazines do this just gives the date it was published on "November 2010"so it doesn't have to be fancy.
Main image- The main image on the magazine is John Lennon from the Beatles he is dressed quite smartly and he is coloured black and white this is because when John Lennon was alive coloured printing wasn't available the magazine has picked up on that and used it.
Cover lines- The cover lines in this magazine are down the right hand side, they are done in a bold red to stand out in the white background which then make the readers look at them after reading the main cover line. These are basically giving you more stories that may interest you into purchasing the magazine to find out.
Main cover line- The main cover line on this magazine is "Lennon at 70" which is presented in a bold red font to stand out also this phase is relating to the cover line at the top of the page as the date it was published happens to be Lennon's 70th birthday. Due to this special event occurring the magazine has made 4 collectors edition covers this is done to incite the readers who like to collect or just a fan of John Lennon
Codes and conventions- This magazines price, bar code and issue number is all in the right hand corner as most magazines place it, this is because it has less importance in persuading customers to purchase it.Also in this magazine you could say there is thematic links with the colours for example the use of the colour red could show violence as it is a strong colour and links in with John Lennon as he was shot to death at the age of 40.
Audience- This magazines audience is based around 15-30 year olds this is because the main image is of John Lennon from the Beatles which is a older band and could appeal to the older audience but the magazine also has the latest news and gossip about other relatively new bands like the Kings of Leon which teenagers may be interested in.
Representation-The representation of this magazine is of the most popular or most famous bands or band members in general, as it doesn't aim to focus on the latest bands around as much as other music magazines do. In this issue John Lennon is the main image and it gives a positive impact on the audience as Q magazine has realised this special date and dedicated one of its magazines to John Lennon.
